I drove Tata Nano

Hype apart Tata Nano is a very cute car, small and pretty.
I went to Tata showroom in Jabalpur and explained that though I wasn't planning to buy a nano it was so pretty that I needed to test drive it. The owner/manager was very positive, he gave me a broad smile and joined me for a short drive. My impressions are as follows :
  1. Pretty - attracts more attention than cars 5 times the price.
  2. Spacious - you can sit more comfortably in a nano than in cars costing 3 times more.
  3. Airy (isn't it the same as above, well I use this term to specify headroom and shoulder space vis-à-vis leg and waist space above)
  4. Drive and handling - While no scorcher, drives comfortably through the city. I didn't try high speed U-turns but it turned and stopped well. It could slip through tiny spaces like Maruti 800 of yore and the park with even more ease. I have seen few Nanoes cruise comfortably on the lesser highways in Srinagar and Raipur but somehow I feel it is underpowered and undertyred for the job.
  5. Boot - almost non-existant but sufficent for typical heavy shopping in the Indian fashion where we dump everything at the rear without bothering to open the boot.
Final Thoughts
If you need a car to drive around in the city for going to work/shopping- do test drive the Nano , you will be pleasantly surprised. If you need a second car to commute in the city Nano is for you. If you speed on the highways at triple digit speeds than this is not the car for you.
